a Positive Attitude to Living
Parenting is a great responsibility.the children are heldby us in trust and allowed to grow up in the way they desire. Imposition is undesirable, andparents, especially inour society, assert their authority too often. There is a saying that a son has tobe treated as a friend when he crosses the age of puberty. Same aplies to daughters too.one must remember that our duty as elders is only to facilitate their growth. a bit of hearsearching will reveal the fact that we are way below the average in performing this duty.hundreds of children withimmense potential end their lives because thehome and the immmediate environment does not inspire hope thair lapse would be forgiven. This shows up the mechanical side ofparenting. Not by food alone do they grow. they need constant nurturing throughlove. Not by giftsalone are they made happy. they need that hug.More importantly negative advice has tobe eschewed.when a child comes running, the adult sys, "don't run, youwillstumble." And stumble he will. the elders in the home should be exemplars and amke quality time for the children however busy they are. also peer associations and friendships need tobe fomented. strong language, hatred, prejudice etc should ever be used in children's presence. Besides, judgmentson others, cheap talk etc will boomerang on th elders when the children grow up.Less of interference and more ofguidance..... that should be the mantra. It all boils down to positive attitude in life. If one does not have it, one cannot exhibit it too.So be the change you desire in the next person. To paraphrase Mahatma Gandhi.
