Being Vigilant

learn common safety, common safety.

Every parent should teach their children to be vigilant. If you think about it for a minute, you may one day be followed and the very next robbed. Only days later do you realize that this one particular stranger has in fact been stalking you all along. A month soon passes and everybody around town sees the headline “Vicious Murder Last Night” in the daily newspapers. Have you ever wondered which precautions to take concerning these situations? Fortunately, this paper will discuss steps to take to avoid such circumstances of occurring.

For starters, it is essential to be careful when going out at night. Everybody should dress in bright colors when it’s dark outside to avoid being hit by cars. They must always look both ways of the street, and this twice, before crossing. Take last Saturday night for instance. There were three car accidents on the highway, one after another, after another. Although, the worst part of it would have to be with the third accident, where a man got run over while walking out of his car to only change his tires. This man was killed. These types of situations are not easy to steer clear of. Yet, there are always certain things to keep in mind. Perhaps in this case, the man should have looked to see if there was a car coming his way, before having gotten out of his car. Had he worn bright colors for others to notice him, he may have then been still alive today. Nevertheless, the killer driver could have been drunk. Now that’s something we all should be aware of. When a person is driving after having drunk alcohol, there will most likely always be a horrific situation that passes unless avoiding it. Think about it for a minute; surely you or someone you know had been drinking and driving once and they have survived amazing situations. Please remember to never drink and drive, as you could end up killed, or ending another person’s life.

Next, it is above all necessary to be sure to know the people you’re with at all times. However, one might wonder to himself “how long should it take a person to learn to trust and confide in another?” Some would say a day and others, five years. There is no actual answer concerning this. Life is a mystery. Everyone knows that we all learn new things every day. It is highly crucial to be aware of all neighborhoods in which someone has to crisscross. Imagine what could happen if someone simply spent one night out with his friends and colleagues to celebrate their night off. Let’s just say that if they had all decided to visit a very dangerous area, many things could have happened to them. One of them could have gotten drunk and decided to walk down the roads alone, and then a man comes up to him and pulls the trigger in his head. This is why it is truly important to always stay around people that you know are trustworthy, just as it is not to walk alone at night, and to stay away from bad neighborhoods.

Lastly, another very crucial thing to do is let somebody know as soon as possible if someone might be in danger. February 3rd 2006 was a date that marked my loved ones and me deeply. Had I been woken up half an hour earlier, things would have happened very differently. I was woken up by my cell phone at 8:03 AM, although I thought it was only 7:00 AM. I noticed someone walk by the doorway of my room, and I thought it was my mother heading for the bathroom. Since I hadn’t had my glasses on, and it was still too dark to have noticed that this person who was walking in the hallway was not my mother, nor anybody that I knew for that matter. This stranger was so very silent, yet I still heard the sound of the front door slam and soon after had I heard a car door close too. Literally twenty seconds had passed from when I had been awoken by the ring, and I looked at the time on my phone. It read 8:03 AM. I got up as fast as I could and looked all over the house only to find out that there was nobody home. A stranger had entered and left our house between those twenty minutes that my parents had left to work, and I had finally been woken up.

To conclude, there are three main measures to take in order to stay safe. First, everybody must be careful when out at night. They should as well watch out for crazy drivers. Then, one must always be sure to know who, he or she, is surrounded by at all times. Who knows? There will always be a slight possibility that someone’s very best friend of ten years could be a murderer, yet the friend of ten years had never known this until came his or her time. Finally, people must never be scared to call the police if they feel they could be in danger. Each person learns from lessons. So I’ll leave you with this one today. Like a wise man had once said, it is best to be stupid than it is to be dead.
