May be a beach-bound total body conditioning or an informal tennis social to break the mundane?... All this and more at the one-stop shop for total fitness called the Boston Athletic Club. Here fitness is the catchword, spelt in all fun and seriousness.
The Boston Athletic Club (BAC) - 653 Summer Street, Boston, MA 02210-2137 – is situated close to south station, Boston (MA). The club is almost certainly a better equipped and one of the most happening of health clubs offering a diverse range of fun-filled fitness activities designed for the mind and body.

What started off as a tennis club many years ago has transformed itself into an emporium of sporting events now featuring tennis, basketball, racquetball, handball, squash (some with league play or partner matching) and more…

At another level, BAC offers the latest and the most specialized equipment and activities for personal fitness grooming from tennis to health, food and hairstyling. This also includes a host of exercise classes, free weights, cardiovascular conditioning, personal training sauna, steam room, whirl pool and lap pool, several courts for sport events. What’s more there is a place (apart from a sprawling parking area) to grab a drink or food with buddies after workout.

Here is how a typical weekday at BAC goes: 6 am schwinn cycle, 6.15 am mind your muscles, 7.15 am pilates, 8.30 am forever stretch, 9.30 am cardio sculpt express, 10.15 am schwinn express, 12 pm legs, butts and guts, 5.30 pm beginner yoga, 5.30 pm, schwinn express, 6.30 pm cardio boot camp, 7.45 pm ashtanga yoga.

Likewise, the flurry of activities changes every weekday. Weekly schedules are put up everyday, both on their official website – and at BAC. The club is open on Mondays to Fridays from 5.30 am to 10.30 pm, while it is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 am to 7 pm. BAC also has seasonal offers to the public to visit and tour the BAC and learn about their programs and try out club for free. The calendar of activities for their seasonal offers may be a three-mile fitness dog walk or a three-mile fitness stroller walk for you and your baby, or a blood donation drive and so on.
BAC members get to participate in several club events and the sports options for the members are diverse, whether the games they play are formal tournaments or social matches. The club has several well-established smaller associations including Boston Tennis Club and the new Triathlon club. The “shooting touch basketball’ is a personalized instruction school at BAC which focuses on specific details of the sport.

Here members feel that along with basic workout, court sports like tennis basketball offer fun and competitive alternatives. ``With the facilities of indoor tennis ball courts, racquetball/handball courts, squash courts and a basket ball volleyball court, your sports option are diverse.” Little wonder then, the complementary tennis social which is held every Thursday between members and non-members is a hit at the BAC.

At the BAC, personal fitness seems of prime importance. All aspects of personal training are in incorporated including nutrition, personal counseling, group exercise, group training, swimming and resistance training, nicely packaged to offer the ultimate fitness combination. Also, there is ample focus on group conditioning classes for body conditioning.

Fun-based programs like breakfast club offering a challenging fun and effective four -week fitness program for total body results, a six- week beach conditioning program, youth conditioning program and cardiovascular conditioning add to the overall appeal of personal fitness package. In all, personal fitness includes ever thing that one can ask for including nutrition counseling and free towel service to baby sitting, salon and spa treatment options.

There are special activities lined up for children including the school-vacation programs. Parents can also join their wards in a unique yogaplay program.

So what does the Boston Athletic Club have to offer to its new members? New members first get a one-hour fitness consultation. At the consultation, a personal trainer will discuss your current fitness level and fitness goals, while assessing your body weight and body fat measurements. The trainer will administer a movement screening. Thereon, the personal trainer will meet the member four times within the first 90 days to assess your current progress and be able to answer fitness questions.

Boston Athletic Club offers several membership packages, the yearly membership package being the most popular one. Membership may be sought either as individuals or as couples. There are also short term and month to month membership fee packages. For corporate membership, however, there are discounted monthly rates and concessional enrollment fee. Users have both good and bad to say about BAC. While they are happy for the convenient hours and availability of many modern workout machines available, some have raised concern over the safety of their belongings, crowd and poor maintenance of the equipment. One thing, however, seems certain. Everybody says BAC makes going to the gym fun.
