Fish Small

Fish Small

One bleak afternoon I was loitering in the street. A scene near New Road attracted my grave attention. I saw a crowd. Soon many pedestrians came there to ogling the site. What I found was a boy in rags was caught red-hand by a lady whose hand-bag he tried to snatch. Now he was trembling awfully. At once, few men pounced upon him cruelly.

'Don't leave the rascal!' somebody said. Others added, 'He is a curse!' Many abuses were showered at him. He became very weak. As a lamb he showed horrific timidity. Definitely, my wrath was also not less in the beginning as I develop a tendency of hatred to bad person in spite my motto 'do always good '. However, as nobody bothered to stop their martial arts, I decided to halt them.

Believe me I'm not his mentor. Nor I am a security officer. Neither had I seen that chap earlier. I swear I dislike robbers and hate pick-pockets. Still, I yelled, 'Too much, please stop it.' Many people give the impression of being me a part of him. I could read their angry eyes. One of them even questioned me for my business. I told them just to leave him for the god's sake. Perhaps he had some compulsions. Moreover, he was beaten severely; certainly, they could not tear him into pieces. Above all that was not our duty to punish him, "he should be handed over to the police.'

Not convinced fully few guys came to push me, but they were blocked by others avoiding the brawl. Then I made it clear why I stopped them. Surprisingly, the woman whose purse was nearly stolen started comforting the bleeding boy. Looking at them I opined, 'He tried to do a crime, there's no doubt. If we pardon him, he may become a good person like you.' Hitherto the angry mob didn't agree. Then I shouted, 'Whenever, a powerful loots you, extorts you or kills somebody, you don't do anything. Nevertheless, you never fail to mutilate a helpless fall-guys. There are so many corrupted figures, defaulters, criminals and murderers, but you worship them giving them in top posts.'

Till the end, they didn't heed me. I wanted to advise the boy not to repeat the same. Only after getting the sympathy, he mumbled due to his bad company, he had been engaged in such dreadful act but promised me that he would return his village to continue his studies. Finally, somebody took him to a police station ignoring my plea.

Back at home when I watched TV, a piece of news echoed my ears, 'The king though found guilty on suppressing the agitators during last April uprising can't be prosecuted as he's the head of the nation.' With pang in heart I remembered the incident of that noon.
