Free lancing: is it viable?
Of late, I have been wondering about what's all this hype about freelancing, work from home, extra income stuff.
I am an academic of 15 years standing. Frankly speaking, I love the web but also my students. I like teaching, writing, and also meeting people online. After all, after all the explosion in the virtual world, there is still need for the real world too. Am I right, online friends?
Nowadays, I see all the stuff about earning income through Google AdSense, AdWords, freelance copyediting, writing, editing etc. And there are oodles of sites with tips, free offers which take you in the final page to a paypal/credit card payment click. Have the Homo sapiens gotten so greedy after the internet revolution?
I have one or two sites where tried this but the income trickles in so slowly like thick honey oozing out from a narrow bottle. But i have not lost hope. We academics and intellectuals don't have the nose for business, right?
So I thought why not we who love ideas network. Surely our hard-earned knowledge through books, references, and web over cups of hot coffe brew in late night must have some way of paying us. Can the freelancers of the world unite?-you have nothing to lose except your isolation, marginalisation, and penury, right?!!
So, what is freelancing?
If one works not as reguar employee but on his own pace and terms for a firm, then he is the one(standard defn).
What types of frelancers?
One could do freelance web designing, proofreading, writing, editing, web researching-the sky is the limit.
But here I wish to focus on work from home freelance writing. How? Where? I am only exploring and want to share, exchange, interact with onlne friends.
Especially for freelance writing, please go to the following for a beginning:
1)www.sree.net (from a Columbia Guru)
2)http://www.academicworkexchange.com(they charge you)
3)www.academia-research.com(UK-based recruiting firm, they demand a professional looking resume)
See ya friends for today!!!
