How to Be a Contestant on Deal or No Deal

Deal or No Deal, Reality TV Show, contestant

Want to know how to get to be a contestant on the popular--very popular--TV show Deal or No Deal? You know the show, where Howie Mandel is the host. Contestants try to win a million dollars? Well, you know the show. Want to try to win that million dollars? Want to know how to try for the show?

In order to be considered as a contestant, you have to first make a personal videotape of yourself and the supporters that you want to accompany you in your appearance on the show. Also you have to fill out their application that can be found at Send this and your video tape to their contestant department.

At this website where they are casting not only Deal or No Deal but the other popular shows like America's Got Talent and The Apprentice, among others, you find all the instructions you need.

The videotape is your audition. In the videotape you tell about yourself and what you'd do with the million dollars. Include all the people you want to appear on camera with you. These are your supporters. You've seen them on the show. They help the contestant decide, along with audience, Deal or No Deal. As with any audition for television, you must try to be "creative" and "show your personality." This is to find out if you have the type of charisma and personality for television and for this type of show. And likewise, your supporters. What is it about you that makes you unique? What about you do you think would make them want you on this show? A lot of people want to try for this million dollars. Why should the casting director want you on this show?

Before making your videotape, study the types of contestants and supporters they already have on the show. Study the show. Take notes. What makes you similar to these contestants? What makes you different from them?

When making the video you should include your name and hometown--"Please start with your name and hometown," says the online instruction. And, "There is no 'right' or 'wrong' thing to say on your tape, we just want to get to know you."

Speak and enunciate so that you are heard clearly. Not only try to get your personality to come through but the personalities of your supporters.

They only accept VHS tapes that fit in your VCR, and these tapes should be labeled with your name, address, and phone number.

Before sending them your tape, of course, you should view it. You don't have to send them the first tape that you make. You might even ask others to view it and what do they think of this tape? Does it interest them? Does it show your personality? Is it unique? Since this is an entertainment show, you might ask them, Is it entertaining? You might want to make several tapes before you decide the best tape to send them.

Think of making this tape the same as if you're writing an article. Make the tape. Review it. Revise it. Revise it again.

As for the application, they say, "answer the questions honestly." Applications must accompany the videotape.

You should also include recent photos of you and your supporters.

Of course all these details are at the website. And this procedure is very similar to almost all the television shows that are looking for contestants.

This contestant package--which should be labeled--should be sent to:

PO Box 38903
Los Angeles, CA 90038-0903

You must only send one application package per person.
