The Popularity of the Toy Dog Breed

toy, dog, breed

Small dogs, sometimes known as toy breed dogs, are active dogs for most of their lives. Toy breed dogs are the favorites of older people. These dogs do not need to be walked as often and are not heavy. Older people want dogs that do not make much of a mess. These dogs are very clean and like to sit on people’s laps and watch television or nap. These spent a lot of time napping. Toy dogs travel well. They love to sit in little baskets or curl up and sleep. They need to stay warm and live about fifteen years.

Older people enjoy taking care of these dogs simply because they give so much affection back. There are many breeds to choose from when shopping for a toy dog. Breeds such as the Shih Tzu, the Maltese, the Chihuahua, toy poodle, and the Havanese are all toy dogs that need a nice, comfortable home to settle down in.

It is smart to consider several factors before choosing a toy breed dog. Things like allergies, other pets, watchdogs, shedding problems, children, leaving the pet alone all day, and being a new pet owner. There are certain breeds that are better than others for certain living situations. For example, if someone in the household suffers from allergies dogs that are suitable for them would be poodles, because they do not shed but do need to be brushed once a day and groomed every six to eight weeks, Maltese, Shih Tzu or the Italian Greyhound. Each of these dogs has short hair and will not leave fur all over the furniture. For people with other pets such as cats, toy breed dogs because of their size and temperament. English toy spaniels, poodles, and pugs should all get along with the cat. Cats are territorial by nature, so it will take them a long time to get used to sharing the space with a new pet.

The toy breed dog is not a good choice for families. The dogs do not like loud noise and will be scared if handled the wrong way. These dogs are good lounge dogs. Kids need a dog they can wrestle with, not a dog to nap with. For people who work all day, the Shih Tzu and the Pekingese are good dogs to have. These dogs are fine being left alone all day. Other dogs may tear up furniture or go to the bathroom on the carpet in protest of being left alone. These dogs will not.

Finding a dog that can manage being alone is important if no one is home all day. Toy breed dogs make great pets. They just need to be placed in a home that suits them. Smaller dogs are more suited for older people who have the time to spend with the dog. Some older people work part-time and are home more often than those who work full-time. A toy breed dog can be a companion for life.
