Won By One

Make disciples, the replacement, end of time, good news

Won By One

We have been won by one, by Jesus, on the cross no less, and so after having done so and having shown to His disciples how to do it during His stay on earth with them, He then commanded His disciples to take over, to take charge of, to continue His mission on earth --- to evangelize and spread the Good News. Thus after His resurrection He told His 11 disciples (minus Judas Escariot, remember?):

“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always
until the end of age.” (Matthew 28:18-19)

With these instructions, Jesus had officially commissioned His disciples as Apostles already, no longer learners, but preachers and evangelists and ambassadors of Christ.

There are three significant elements in His instructions:
• Jesus has been given full and blanket power by the Father
• By the same power, He authorized and commanded His disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations”
• He gave an assurance that there’s no need to be afraid for He will always be with them “until the end of age”[from age to age, from generations to generations].

Although there were only 11 of His apostles present, the instructions and authority were addressed and given to 12 apostles, the original number designated by the Lord. Now this is very important. Because it was the Lord, himself, who formed the 12 apostles and therefore, it has to be 12 as planned. Whatever God does and creates is perfect and complete. When He created and formed the team of apostles, (fishers of men) He has a purpose for making it 12, part of grand plan of God, the great Architect. It is the will of God that there shall be 12, it has to be 12 by, Sovereign will.

The 11 apostles understood this divine plan, that is why prior to their actual field missions, they have to complete their number. So they decided to select from among the other disciples of Jesus a replacement for the missing member to fill up the 12th office. Anyone familiar with the air force flight formation when giving tribute to a disabled pilot, one plane is conspicuously missing in the formation. But soon after, a replacement would take over the vacant space in the formation. In Acts 1:23, the 11 apostles nominated two candidates, Joseph and Matthias. They prayed to help them select the replacement:

“You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, Show which one
of these two you have chosen to take the place in this apostolic
ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place.” (Acts 1:24)

They cast lots and Matthias by divine grace will got the position.

This brings us to a very important hidden agenda in the evangelization plan of the Lord. Note that Matthias was mentioned only once in the New Testament. He was not heard before and after his election as the replacement apostle. Why? Is this because his role is not as significant as the original 11 being just a replacement or a filler? Of course not! On the contrary, the role of the “replacement” is crucial to the success of evangelization mission as mandated by the Lord. The fact that Matthias has not been given prominence nor described, appears to be intentional and for a good purpose. This means that Matthias as a replacement apostle, is a person, the name Matthias is not important, rather what is more important is that the “replacement” is a person` meaning that “Matthias” could be anybody, yes anybody whom the Lord anoints, to take the place of the missing 12th apostle. The replacement could be you, anyone of us, in this present generation, anyone in the generations to come. This situation is bolstered by the last assuring message of the Lord;

“And behold, I will be with you always, until the end of the age.”

The Lord is actually saying every believer from generation to generation (age to age) should continue making disciples of all nations, regardless of religion, but more so, of non-Christian people. This evangelization mission is to continue until the end of time, His second coming. And every person brought to Jesus by a “replacement” is a soul “Won by One!” What a way to honor and glorify th Father, our creator, the Alpha and Omega of all things, seen and seen.

We have been “Won by One”, the only begotten Son of God, at great cost. Now this mission is passed on to us, to you, not by crucifixion as He did, but by much less cost, +making disciples of all nations” with no fear because of His assurance to be with us, with you, always in this sublime endeavor.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Allelua!.
